HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A well-known restaurant chain in Hawaii is leaving the islands.

Sunday was the last day to eat at Outback Steakhouse in Hawaii.

The company suddenly announced on Saturday that all three locations — in Kapolei, Kona and Waipio — would permanently close, giving little notice to staff.

Many customers flocked to the restaurant on its last day – especially to use their gift cards.

“I mean, if they’re going to abandon us, I mean, they’re not going to get my money, too,” said customer Derrick Horiuchi.

The company that owns Outback Steakhouse said in a statement, “Closing a restaurant is never easy. This was a business decision and is not a reflection of the management or staff. All employees will receive severance pay.”

“It’s just sad for the workers, especially, you know, what a week notice maybe or a day notice,” said Romeo Ibrar, another customer.
