‘More than a race’: Great Aloha Run to celebrate 40 years of supporting Hawaii charities
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The 40th annual Great Aloha Run is just over a month away — and organizers are reminding racers to sign up early.
An event to celebrate the four decades of racing and charity kicked off Tuesday morning in Downtown Honolulu, where registrants were able to get $5 off their fee and were entered for a chance to win a Ko Aloha Ukulele.
“We are so grateful to the folks at Ko Aloha for donating this beautiful instrument. It just goes to show you how much community support is behind this event,” said Carole Kai, co-founder of the Great Aloha Run.
The 8.15-mile race is set for Feb. 19 and offers something for everyone — whether you’re a serious runner, an occasional racer, or a walker looking to socialize with friends and family while raising money for dozens of local charities.
“We’ve raised over $17 million in 40 years for more than 150 charities in Hawaii. This is much more than just a race,” added Race Director Alan Sunio.
