First Alert Weather Day: Windward Hawaii Island prepares for heavy rainfall Saturday and Sunday
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Hawaii News Now weather team has marked Saturday and Sunday as First Alert Weather Days on Hawaii Island.
An upper-level disturbance and a pocket of deep moisture could result in heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms over the windward portions of Hawaii Island.
Rainfall totals could settle around 1-4 inches. If thunderstorms do develop, some rainfall totals could climb above 5 inches.
Winds will remain light to moderate this weekend. A stalled front to the north of the state continues to block the typical trade wind flow. Gusty trades are expected to return on Monday after the front decays. Windy conditions are expected throughout all of next week.
Hawaii Island summits may also see snowfall late Saturday into Sunday.
All windward neighborhoods across the island chain will see periods of heavy pockets of rain throughout the weekend.
