“Rest of us are focusing on Denver”: Antonio Pierce sidesteps Davante Adams trade questions, keeps Raiders' eyes on Denver game preparation | NFL News – Times of India
As the Las Vegas Raiders prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Denver Broncos, head coach Antonio Pierce has made it clear that distractions will not derail his team’s focus. Just as Belichick famously declared “We’re on to Cincinnati” after a controversial Super Bowl loss, Pierce addressed the media on Wednesday regarding the status of star wide receiver Davante Adams.

Antonio Pierce Dismisses Davante Adams Trade Talk, Urges Raiders to Focus on Upcoming Denver Clash
Amidst swirling rumors suggesting Adams wants out of Las Vegas and the Raiders might be willing to accommodate his trade request, Pierce remains unfazed. He emphasizes that his top priority is preparing his team for Sunday’s matchup against the Broncos. The coach’s unwavering determination is rooted in his past experiences with adversity, which have equipped him to navigate challenges with resilience.
“Davante’s dealing with a hamstring (injury),” Pierce said. “He’s rehabbing, and the rest of us are focusing on Denver.”
Pierce emphasized the importance of focusing solely on the task at hand. “Because it starts with me, because that’s my only focus,” he noted. “I get paid here to get ready each and every week for the opponent. I don’t blink. I don’t flinch. I’ve said it before: I’ve been through enough in my life with adversity and stuff that it doesn’t bother me.”
Adams’ situation has inevitably created a stir, particularly after he refrained from commenting on a social media post that suggested a trade might be imminent. When asked if liking the comment was unintentional, Pierce was curt, reiterating his focus on the upcoming game. “Yeah, I’m focused on Denver,” he replied. While Pierce acknowledged that he and Adams “talk often,” he remained noncommittal about their recent communications.
As a first-year full-time head coach, Pierce appears undaunted by the potential distractions arising from Adams’ trade requests. He stated, “Just business as usual. You’ve got to keep rolling. Things come up every day. Since I’ve taken over this job, it’s been obstacles. So, just another one.”
Adams, one of the league’s premier receivers, has been the subject of trade speculation even before this week. With his salary cap hit projected to increase significantly next season, the Raiders face decisions about asset management as they contemplate a possible rebuild. Last season, Adams recorded impressive statistics with 103 receptions for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns, marking his fifth 1,000-yard season in six years. So far this season, he has caught 18 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown over three games. With the NFL trade deadline approaching on November 5, the Raiders must navigate this complex situation with care. Although time remains to finalize a deal, the continued presence of Adams on the roster could evolve into a distraction as the team seeks to stay competitive in the league.
