Pueblo police officers Tuesday afternoon shot and killed one alleged armed carjacking suspect and arrested another suspect after a pursuit.

Officers received a call about a carjacking involving a handgun about 2:10 p.m. near the intersection of Jerry Murphy Road and Bonnymede Road and located the vehicle on the south side of Pueblo, according to a news release from the Pueblo Police Department.

After a pursuit, the vehicle crashed into a fence in the 100 block between Broadway Avenue and Michigan Avenue, and both suspects fled on foot.

The first suspect ran west through the alley, and when officers attempted to capture him, he “produced a handgun and shots were fired,” according to the news release. The suspect, who police did not identify or provide an age for, died at the scene.

The second suspect ran east through the alley, and officers captured that person after a short foot chase and “struggle with police,” according to the news release.

The 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team led by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the shooting. The involved officers are on administrative leave, according to the news release.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact Pueblo police at 719-553-2502 or Detective Ryan Torres at 719-320-6037.
