Colorado weather: Snow expected in Denver and the mountains on Monday

Light snow is expected to dust Denver on Monday while a heavier winter storm swirls over the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

NWS forecasters said snow is most likely in Denver between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday but the scattered snowfall could continue into the evening or overnight.

The Denver area will see between a dusting and 3 inches, with the most snow expected south of the city in Parker and Castle Rock, according to NWS snow forecasts.

Snow will wrap up in metro Denver overnight Monday or earlier but is expected to continue in the mountains through Tuesday evening. Forecasters said fresh snowfall totals will reach:

• Up to 12 inches in southern Colorado’s Sangre de Cristo Range, including Bigelow Pass, Ratón Pass, Bushnell Peak and Culebra Peak;
• Up to 10 inches in southern Colorado’s Spanish Peaks, including Cordova Pass;
• Up to 6 inches in western Colorado’s Elk Mountains, including West Elk Peak and Schofield Pass;
• Up to 9 inches in northern Colorado’s Park Range, including Mount Werner;
• And up to 6 inches along Rabbit Ears Pass, where U.S. 40 connects to Steamboat Springs and multiple ski areas.
