January 1 marked 10 years of legal recreational marijuana sales in Colorado

MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Monday not only brought in a New Year. It also marked the anniversary of the first legal sale of recreational marijuana in this state.

Colorado voters passed amendment 64 in Nov. 2012, however, the first sale came two years in 2014. Since then the state of Colorado has seen more than $15 Billion in legal marijuana sales in licensed businesses. This has generated more than 2 and a half billion dollars in tax revenue for our state government and millions of dollars for the local governments as well.

Mason Tvert a a spokesperson with Colorado Leads, a leading cannabis industry organization in Colorado, says cannabis can be an intoxicating substance like alcohol. he said it can be problematic depending on the rate that people use the substance. This can lead to people abusing the substance and getting addicted to marijuana.
