El Paso County Commission joins Colorado Springs City Council in opposing recreational marijuana
El Paso County Commissioners unanimously handed a decision this week opposing poll questions in Colorado Springs and Palmer Lake that, if permitted, would legalize leisure marijuana.
Commissioners largely targeted on the potential long-term results of the drug, saying it might solely improve psychological well being considerations within the county and make marijuana extra accessible to kids.
Commissioner Cami Bremer stated it was necessary for the county to weigh in on municipal poll points as a result of, “on the finish of the day, what occurs in these jurisdictions, impacts the county.”
“We’re those which are offering the felony justice and human companies and social companies that always will associate with an elevated want with leisure marijuana use,” Bremer stated.
Commissioner Stan VanderWerf represents District 3, which incorporates Palmer Lake. He stated he was grateful that the state allowed localities to decide on whether or not or to not permit leisure marijuana when it was legalized in 2012.
“We simply merely do not want it,” he stated. “All the advocacy factors that individuals make are simply merely not there.”
