BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) — A man had allegedly made comments to authorities while he was at a Home Depot store in Burbank about “wanting to shoot people,” police said.

Just before 4 p.m. Saturday, officers with the Burbank Police Department responded to the parking lot in front of the store located at 1200 S. Flower Street after a 911 call in from a man who claimed to be armed with a gun.

Police said the call was a transfer from the California Highway Patrol, which stated the man had said something to them about “wanting to shoot people.”

Officers located the man and an officer-involved shooting occurred following a brief exchange. The victim was transported to the hospital in an unknown condition. Witness reported seeing a large police presence along with fire department personnel and crime scene tape surrounding the store’s parking lot.

In a video posted on the Citizen app, customers appeared to have been locked in the store and were prevented from entering the store’s parking lot.

Police sent a tweet Saturday evening, saying there’s not threat to the public in the area, but the parking lot and nearby roadways will be closed until further notice.

This is a developing story. This article will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
