Suspect in custody after firing at troopers during standoff in eastern Arizona

SHOW LOW, AZ (AZFamily) — A suspect is in the hospital after being shot in return gunfire by troopers in Apache County overnight.

Arizona DPS said SWAT team troopers responded to assist the Apache County Sheriff’s Office with a barricaded suspect firing at deputies around 8:50 p.m. at US-60 and Apache County Road 3095 near Show Low.

The SWAT team continued negotiations with the suspect for several hours, DPS said. Around 2:40 a.m., the suspect fired at DPS SWAT, and troopers returned fire.

Troopers then took the suspect into custody. The suspect was hospitalized, and both their condition and ID are currently unknown.

No law enforcement officers were injured in the shooting.
