Should Arizona State be ranked in college football Top 25 after win over Oklahoma State?

The Arizona State football team is 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the Big 12.

It impressed in a 42-21 blowout win over Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla., Saturday, shining before and after a lengthy weather delay.

But was it enough for the Sun Devils to be ranked for the first time under coach Kenny Dillingham?

Probably not, but ASU could be getting very close.

Though ASU football received no votes in the AP poll, the Sun Devils were seventh in the “others receiving votes” category of the most recent US LBM Coaches poll, which comes out every Sunday, essentially No. 32 in the country.

No. 22 Washington State was off this week, as was No. 23 Missouri.

No. 24 Illinois did lose to Minnesota, 25-17, and No. 25 Memphis fell to UTSA, 44-36.

But Colorado, ahead of ASU in the “receiving votes” category, was also off this week, as was Tulane. Louisiana, also ahead of ASU, beat Texas State. Vanderbilt, also in front of the Sun Devils, topped Auburn.

Navy, one of the other teams near ASU, was losing to Rice, while UNLV was also off.

Some voters are likely to be impressed with ASU’s win over Oklahoma State, but the Sun Devils probably have too many teams to pass this week to break into the Top 25.

But they should be getting very close after the impressive win over the Cowboys.

Close enough where a win over UCF next week might put them into the Top 25.

Who would have guessed they could be even close to this position after going 3-9 last season and being predicted to finish last in the Big 12?
