President Biden to visit Arizona next week
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — President Joe Biden will be making a stop in the Grand Canyon State next week as many politicians are hitting the campaign trails.
The president will be traveling to Phoenix from March 19 to 20 following stops in Reno and Las Vegas. No details for the visit have been announced.
The last time the president visited Arizona was in Sept. 2023, where he honored the late Sen. John McCain and targeted former President Donald Trump in his speech. Biden spoke about an “extremist movement,” referring to Trump’s Make America Great Again slogan. In Aug. 2023, the president also visited Arizona to announce a national monument, which permanently blocked new uranium mining near the Grand Canyon.
President Biden and Trump clinched their parties’ presidential nominations Tuesday. Both candidates dominated Tuesday’s primaries in swing-state Georgia, deep-red Mississippi and Democratic-leaning Washington. Trump also won Hawaii’s Republican caucus. Neither Biden nor Trump faced major opposition.
Biden follows in Vice President Kamala Harris’ footsteps, who stopped in Arizona last week as part of her reproduction rights tour. Harris spoke to a group of grassroots volunteers who’ve been fighting to get abortion rights on the November ballot in Arizona. Pro-choice supporters are working to get a measure on the ballot that would expand abortion for up to 23 or 24 weeks in the state.
