Former Arizona diver Delaney Schnell qualifies for 2024 Paris Olympics

Delaney Schnell is heading back to the Olympics.

The former Arizona diver and Tucson native clinched her spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics Tuesday evening by winning the women’s 10 meter synchronized platform event at the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials in Knoxville, Tenn.

Schnell and her partner Jessica Parratto took silver in the same event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Schnell and Parratto scored 607.11 points, more than 100 points above any of their competitors. As the duo completed their final dive, Schnell’s mom could be seen cheering her daughter on in an Arizona tank top.

Also in attendance was Arizona assistant coach Dwight Dumais, who has served as Schnell’s diving coach.

The 25-year-old Schnell graduated from Tucson High School before attending Arizona from 2017-23. Schnell was a three-time Pac-12 Diver of the Year. As a senior, she won the national championship in platform diving.

Schnell convinced her diving partner, Parratto, to come out of retirement to compete for a spot in the Paris Olympics. After the meet Tuesday, Parratto thanked Schnell for pushing her to return to the pool, while Schnell shared that Parratto was an inspiration as a young diver.

Unlike three years in Tokyo, Schnell and Parratto will be able to compete in front of family, friends and supporters at this year’s Olympics.

“It’s going to be something new for me and I’m looking forward to it,” Schnell said.
