Cooler temperatures arrive in Arizona with rain and snow on the way next
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Cooler temperatures and elevated winds arrive today ahead of the first of two weather disturbances to move through Arizona.
Look for 10-15 mph winds in the Valley, mostly sunny skies and an afternoon high of just 81 degrees—five degrees below normal for this time of year in Phoenix.
Windier conditions can be expected in the higher elevations of the state and especially across eastern Arizona, where a Wind Advisory, Blowing Dust Advisory and Red Flag Warning are all in effect today. Northern Arizona is also under a Wind Advisory and Red Flag Warning.
While today will be gusty and dry, rain and snow showers arrive in Arizona tonight and spread across the state tomorrow. This could make for tricky holiday weekend travel, especially in the high country. Snow showers are likely to fall down to 6,000 feet in elevation on Friday, with the heaviest snow between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. While only a couple of inches are expected, blowing snow will bring reduced visibility on the roadways.
The snow is expected to wind down from west to east on Saturday. Easter Sunday looks dry both in the High Country and in the Valley. Look for Valley highs in the upper 70s on Friday and Saturday. Rain chances are near 20% for Friday afternoon and evening in the Valley, with only a couple of hundredths of an inch of rain likely.
Easter Sunday in Phoenix will bring cool morning temperatures in the 50s, with sunshine and a high of about 87 degrees in the afternoon.
