Arizona sees welcome rain and snow forecast after dry winter
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Rain and snow are expected across Arizona this week, providing much-needed moisture after an unusually dry winter season.
Phoenix has received less than two-tenths of an inch of rain in 2026, which is more than an inch below average for this time of year.
The city is experiencing its warmest February on record, according to the National Weather Service.
Northern Arizona snow deficit continues
Flagstaff typically receives around five feet of snow by this point in the season, but only a little more than a foot has fallen so far this winter.
“The outlook through at least the early part of the spring does continue to favor a La Niña-like pattern, and that would lead to increased chances for below normal precipitation,” said Megan Taylor, National Weather Service meteorologist. “So the long-range outlook is basically a continuation of what we’ve seen. So we’re grateful to see this active pattern right now.”
Last season remained dry in northern Arizona until March, when several weather systems deposited about three feet of snow during that month.
The forecast indicates the current dry pattern may not allow the region to make up the precipitation deficit this season.
