Arizona Cardinals open office space near Tempe facility, moving several departments to new digs

Wednesday was move-in day for dozens of Arizona Cardinals employees, who left their individual work areas at the team’s main facility in Tempe for new office space nearby.

The Cardinals are expanding in both employees and square footage, and to that end have remodeled a 30,000-foot space less than a half-mile north of their facility on South Hardy Road. The annex is described by the team as an “open concept collaborative office space” that will house almost all of the team’s non-football personnel, including finance, marketing, business development, ticketing, IT, human resources, community relations and content and creative departments.

One of Chief Operating Officer Jeremy Walls’ main tasks when brought on last August was to conduct a thorough review of all business-side operations to come up with a plan to modernize the organization’s business approach. He essentially provided a fresh set of eyes on the non-football side not unlike General Manager Monti Ossenfort did when hired last offseason to lead football operations.

With Walls’ new organizational structure comes the addition of a more open and communication-friendly space for more than 40 recently hired employees who form a newly created sales and service team that will focus on fan experience and the business of the Cardinals.

That’s only a fraction of the number of total employees who are moving to the new space. The main Cardinals facility opened in 1990 and was renovated in 2015.

More positions will be added in the coming weeks and months, including in public-facing marketing, corporate partnerships and community relations roles. A handful of positions, including that of longtime former Chief Financial Officer Greg Lee, have been eliminated as the Cardinals shift resources to growth areas.

All of the business-side initiatives are taking place as the Cardinals head into an incredibly important offseason on the football side with high optimism. The team, under Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon, ended the season with momentum from two December road victories over playoff-bound teams, and won three games following the Week 10 return of quarterback Kyler Murray.

Arizona currently has 11 draft picks including six in the first three rounds, the highest total in the NFL, going into April’s draft. 

“On the football side, Monti Ossenfort and Jonathan Gannon have done an outstanding job in their first year establishing a foundation for success and there is clear momentum heading into 2024,” Cardinals president and principal owner Michael Bidwill said in a statement.

“Jeremy is doing the same thing on the business side by modernizing and restructuring the ways we operate to strengthen our organization as a whole and specifically to improve the overall experience for Cardinals fans. Coach Gannon has said he’s never been more enthused heading into an offseason, and we feel the same way.”
