Waiting for snow in many parts of Alaska
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – October is seeing some colder temperatures with frost starting to appear in the mornings!
Cooler air will filter across the state this week, but the chances of it generating any appreciable snowfall is low. In fact, the snow is so far a no-show in many areas of the state.
Southcentral and Interior Alaska locations will see more overnight lows below freezing this week, but a “stickable” snowfall is not materializing just yet. Any snow has mainly fallen on the mountain-tops so far.
It was a cold start to the day over many areas of Alaska, with much of the state recording temperatures at or below freezing. East Anchorage did dip below freezing this morning.
Low pressure will continue to spin over North Gulf Coast, making it capable of pushing showers through the Panhandle and Southcentral, primarily in Prince William Sound and the eastern Kenai Peninsula.
The forecast shows showers possible in Anchorage on Tuesday. Rainfall totals won’t be much in Anchorage, with more in Wasilla (0.30+ inches) and Whittier (0.40+).
Mat-Su areas have a chance for sunshine as well as showers which remains the case for Anchorage and Girdwood.
Southeast Alaska should still be prepared for showers, and even a thunderstorm possible in Yakutat Tuesday, going into the evening.
The hot spot in Alaska on Monday was Klawock and Metlakatla at 56 degrees! The cold spot went to Anaktuvuk Pass at 15 degrees.
