ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A masked trio of individuals on Wednesday afternoon entered a youth facility on Muldoon Road and physically assaulted a juvenile, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

In an email on Thursday, police said they responded to the Boys & Girls Club Northeast Community Center just after 3 p.m. after three masked people attacked a club member. Police believe the masked attackers were also juveniles.

APD said that the fight grew to include five people.

When a weapon fell to the ground and was picked up by one of the victims, the suspects fled from the club. No shots were fired, police said.

Police say the victims did not appear to have been injured, nor did they seek medical attention.

A sign on one of the clubs’ doors Thursday stated that the facility would be closed Thursday and Friday and reopen Monday.

A spokesperson for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska on Friday said the temporary closure was due to an “attack on a clubhouse member by multiple non-member subjects.”

“We are grateful to the staff who took swift and appropriate action to diffuse the situation. Providing a safe place for youth and families is our top priority,” the spokesperson wrote in a statement. “Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”

The club is cooperating with the police’s investigation, the spokesperson said.
