Maria Downey honored by Anchorage Assembly
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Anchorage Assembly recognized longtime Alaska’s News Source reporter and anchor Maria Downey on Friday at their special meeting.
The Assembly recognized Downey’s “four decades of excellence” in broadcast journalism in Anchorage, adding that she made Alaska a “better, happier place for those who call it home.”
The Assembly also noted Downey’s reporting on key events in the last four decades, such as the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill.
Downey stepped down as the Chief Anchor at Alaska’s News Source on Friday, Jan. 26, with one final newscast.
