Alaska Airlines, the second largest airline operating out of San Francisco International Airport, confirmed reports Monday that it will cut service by early next year.

An Alaska spokesperson would not offer specifics on the number of flights or destinations affected. Simply Flying, an air travel website, reported that the airline would cut 72 weekly flights to Everett, Wash., in the Seattle area and up to 48 weekly flights on its SFO-New York JFK-Spokane route.

Alaska said the changes were “normal adjustments.” During its first quarter earnings call in April, the airline said that because business travel is still lagging, it would cut capacity in early 2024 on routes frequented by corporate travelers.

“This is us enacting those cuts,” the airline said.

While Alaska is cutting flights nationwide, it is also adding service to warm-weather destinations popular in the winter, including Nassau, Bahamas; Honolulu; Miami; Palm Springs and Mexico.
