A break in the wet weather in southern Alaska
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A rainy weekend in southcentral Alaska ran right into Monday. The storm over the weekend brought in a touch of fall, with all the wet and windy weather conditions.
Anchorage has seen inches of rain through the month of August so far, with 3.63 inches. And this is the wettest year through August 11th with 12.65 inches of precipitation. The average for this point in the year is 5.5 inches.
There will be a break between storms for southcentral, into southeast as a ridge of high pressure edges north. But a large low will return toward the end of the week, bringing, rain and strong winds. This will generate high surf along western coasts as well.
Anchorage will get a break from Tuesday to Thursday. There is a chance to see overnight and early morning fog as the skies clear.
The hot spot in Alaska on August 12, 2024 was Juneau and Haines with 68 degrees. The cold spot was Hatch Peak, near Willow, with 35 degrees.
