Texas mom who fatally shot teenager breaking in through daughter’s window won’t be charged
A Texas mom who fatally shot a 14-year-old boy who was breaking into her 8-year-old daughter’s window last December found out this week she won’t be charged.
“I feel great that they were able to see it through my eyes,” Aleah Wallace told FOX 4.
She said she had worried her case would be “drug out, or I would be away from my kids or, you know, things like that.”
A grand jury in Tarrant County this week chose to no-bill Wallace, meaning they didn’t find enough evidence to charge her with a crime over the shooting.

Wallace said she and her kids are still in therapy over the incident.
“They go to counseling once a week, so it’s still a little tough for them, but other than that, they’re okay,” she said of her four daughters.
But she said she still feels for the family of Devin Baker, 14, who lost their son when he climbed in her window.
“I want to offer my condolences to his family,” she told FOX 4.
Wallace previously defended her actions to FOX 4, while facing eviction for allegedly violating the apartment’s rules that guns aren’t allowed in government-subsidized housing.

“It’s just me and my four daughters that stay there,” she told the news station in January. “I just was protecting my daughters. I’m devastated that he was 14. I hate that. I literally do. And I’m so sorry. But at that point, I had to think about my babies. I didn’t know he was 14 when he was on the other side of that window. All I knew was that somebody could come in and hurt me or my kids. That’s it.”
Baker’s mother previously said he had snuck out of her home in the middle of the night without her knowledge before the shooting.
Wallace had been the victim of repeated attempted burglaries in the weeks leading up to the shooting, and she called 911 each time, police confirmed last year.
Her eviction threat was dropped after a lawyer took up her case pro bono, and she has also been supported by Republican state Rep. Carrie Isaac.
“I want to say thank you so much, we are eternally grateful,” Wallace said of the support she received.
Wallace said she and her daughters have since moved from the apartment.

Olvera Street burro at El Pueblo de Los Ángeles in danger of being evicted
Perhaps the most famous donkey in all Southern California, the life-sized stuffed burro in Olvera Street’s El Pueblo de Los Ángeles, which countless Angelenos and tourists from around the world have taken their photos with, is in danger of being evicted.
Located at the entrance to what’s considered the birthplace of L.A., La Carreta at Placita Olvera, the small business that owns the burro, was founded in the late 1960’s by Jesus “Don Chuy” Hernandez and his wife Trancito “Tancho” Hernandez and has remained in the family since.
During that time, visitors to Placita Olvera could get their photographs taken with the family’s pet donkey named Cirila. Later, the life-sized stuffed burro took its place.
Richard Hernandez, who now operates La Carreta at Placita Olvera, said he only recently learned that he was facing eviction.
“Last Friday afternoon, the management came and told me that I was supposed to leave the premises on the 16 of May,” he told KTLA. “I don’t think the city attorney was aware of what this little carreta, this little business symbolizes for the city, for the Angelenos. People from all over the world have visited this little stand and now they want to take it away.”
Hernandez said he plans to contact L.A. City Council about the possibility of saving the business that has been in his family for generations and asked Angelenos who love the burro to do the same.
A petition to save La Carreta at Placita Olvera can be found here.

Dem Senate candidate attends event where illegal immigrants were informed on how to evade law enforcement
Rep. Colin Allred, D-Texas, the Democratic nominee in the Texas Senate race, attended a campaign-related event that handed out cards with instructions to help illegal immigrants evade law enforcement and potential deportation.
The “Know Your Rights Cards” were handed out during a recent coordinated campaign event with the Dallas County Democrat Party in early May, while running for the seat currently held by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.
The red cards, viewed by Fox News Digital, explain how someone in the U.S. illegally can avoid immigration agents that are asking them questions or showing up at their door.
When asked about the distribution of such cards, Allred did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
TAXPAYER-FUNDED ID PROGRAM FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS EXPECTED TO BEGIN THIS SUMMER
“DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR if an immigration agent is knocking on the door,” the first instruction reads.
HOUSE GOP EYES ELECTION SAFEGUARDS TO BLOCK ‘DANGEROUSLY HIGH NUMBER’ OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS FROM VOTING
“DO NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS from an immigration agent if they try to talk to you. You have the right to remain silent,” says another.
Also included on the cards that were distributed at the event, “do not sign anything” and “if you are outside of your home, ask the agent if you are free to leave and if they say yes, leave calmly.”
The cards are a product of the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, a group backed by the Open Society Foundations, which was founded by top-Democrat donor George Soros.
The Democrat congressman has a history of voting against stronger border security, recently missing a House vote for stronger border security measures, telling CBS News afterward that he would not have voted for the legislation had he been present.
