A 19-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly hitting a man and a woman with a baseball bat during a dispute in Ojai.

Deputies were called to the 300 block of East Ojai Avenue when someone reported seeing someone with a bat involved in a fight around 12:15 p.m.

Arriving deputies were told that a verbal confrontation between three people, two men and a woman, had escalated into a physical fight, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.

The suspect, identified as Reef Matte of Ojai, had struck the 23-year-old man and the 28-year-old woman with the bat, the Sheriff’s Department said.
