It was a scary scene on Saturday at West High School in Torrance, when a vehicle crashed into a fence and landed on the track as children played on a nearby field.

The crash occurred at about 2 p.m. Saturday after the driver of a blue Jeep SUV lost control in the area of Entradero Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard, according to stringer service Traffic News LA.

Video obtained by KTLA from a surveillance camera outside a nearby home showed the SUV speeding down Entradero at a high rate of speed, followed by a loud crashing sound.

The SUV then crashed into a fence, went airborne, and landed on the track near the football field of West High School, where a youth soccer game was taking place. Witnesses told TNLA that the car then caught on fire.

Stephen Resnick, who was refereeing the soccer match, said he was on the opposite end of the field from where the crash occurred.

“I saw the car land on the [track],” he said. “It started to catch fire. Several people ran over and they pulled the driver out of the car.”

Resnick said the driver was acting “odd” after he was pulled out of the vehicle.

“He didn’t seem like he wanted to be held down,” he added.

As of Sunday afternoon, it’s not yet clear why the man was speeding and lost control of the vehicle.
