A soldier died final week throughout coaching in California’s Mojave Desert, the U.S. Military introduced.

Spc. Joseph M. Meitl Jr., 23, died final Thursday on the Nationwide Coaching Middle at Fort Irwin, the Military stated in a weekend assertion.

Fort Irwin is in San Bernardino County, positioned between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Meitl joined the Military in Could 2020 and was an armored cannon crew member within the 1st Calvary Division at Fort Hood, Texas, which was present process coaching, the Military stated.

“Specialist Joseph Meitl Jr. was a priceless member of our Metal Dragon workforce. We’re deeply saddened by the lack of an unbelievable trooper and teammate,” Lt. Col. Christopher Carpenter stated within the assertion. “We lengthen our deepest sympathies to his partner, household, and pals.”

Meitl beforehand was awarded the Military Achievement Medal, the Nationwide Protection Service Medal and the Military Service Ribbon.
