Tax deadline extended for Southern California wildfire victims: Here's what you need to know

(KTLA) – The Internal Revenue Service and the state of California have announced tax relief for wildfire victims across Southern California.

Impacted taxpayers now have until Oct. 15, 2025, to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.

The deadline applies to individual income tax returns and payments normally due on April 15. According to the IRS, this relief also applies to the 2024 estimated tax payment normally due on Jan. 15 and estimated tax payments normally due on April 15, June 16 and Sept. 15.

“California is taking action to provide relief to state taxpayers affected by these devastating fires. The people in Los Angeles County have experienced unimaginable tragedy, and the state will continue to do everything possible to help these communities.” Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement.
