Man who allegedly sexually assaulted UCLA exchange student facing multiple charges 

A man who allegedly sexually assaulted an exchange student at the University of California, Los Angeles last week is facing multiple charges. 

According to a statement from Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón’s office, Jeffery Stott Brewer, Jr. is charged with one count of sexual penetration by use of force and one count of first-degree residential burglary with a person present. 

He was originally arrested by the UCLA Police Department on charges of assault with intent to commit a felony, false imprisonment, burglary and forcible sexual penetration, a UCLA PD release indicates. 

The assault occurred in the early hours of July 5 at a room located in the Saxon Suites, UCLA police confirmed, and while it was not immediately clear how Brewer, Jr. gained access to the residence, the DA’s office stated that he allegedly began loitering outside of a student housing building around 1:30 a.m. and was let in by a student who heard him knocking on a door. 

He then left at the request of two student residents, officials said. 

Less than an hour later, at 2:40 a.m., Brewer, Jr. allegedly broke into another residence within the same building where he committed the assault against the exchange student while she was sleeping. 

He was taken into custody on the same day as the assault, UCLA police said. 

The 41-year-old, who is being held on $1.15 million bail, was arraigned on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to all charges, the DA’s office said. 

His next court hearing is set for Aug. 13.

If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum of 25 years to life plus six years in a state prison.
