A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy has been charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced the charges against 31-year-old Bryan Cardoso on Wednesday.

Cardoso is accused of sexually assaulting the 13-year-old at his home in Cudahy in 2022.

The crime, according to the D.A.’s Office, involved “great violence, great bodily harm, threat of great bodily harm, and other acts disclosing a high degree of cruelty, viciousness, and callousness.”

The case is being prosecuted by the D.A.’s Office Sex Crimes Division.

District Attorney George Gascón described the allegations against Cardoso as “reprehensible and unacceptable,” and vowed justice would be served.

“I am heartbroken and outraged by the egregious assault on an innocent 13-year-old girl by someone who was entrusted with protecting our community. This child has endured an unimaginable violation of trust,” Gascón said.

Cardoso is currently free of custody after posting $100,000 bond last week. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 8 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in downtown Los Angeles.

If convicted, Cardoso could face up to eight years in state prison.
