Horse dies after violent crash in Los Angeles County
A horse died after being struck by a sedan in the Santa Clarita Valley on Monday night.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials confirmed to KTLA that the collision occurred just after 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Iron Canyon and Sand Canyon roads east of Santa Clarita.
Nearby residents said they heard the collision followed by the sedan’s female driver screaming. Video from the scene shows that the vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage, with its front bumper completely torn off and the windshield smashed.
The horse was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
It was not immediately clear if there was a rider on the horse or if it was alone at the time of the collision. A saddle was observed on the horse, according to preliminary information.
The driver of the sedan, who was not immediately identified, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, however, her condition is not known.
No DUI is suspected, the sheriff’s department said, adding that the area is known for horse traffic.
