Disturbance involving 200 juveniles forces Carson shopping mall to close
A major disturbance involving hundreds of juveniles forced a busy shopping mall in Carson to close Saturday night.
Authorities received reports of the large gathering at the SouthBay Pavilion Mall at around 5:20 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
During the gathering, a trash can was lit on fire and illegal fireworks were set off inside a store at the mall, deputies said.
Dispersal orders were given to the teens but they reportedly refused to comply. More law enforcement backup was called to the scene as the teens were disrupting business and endangering shoppers, officials said.
“Some kids had started a fire in the trash cans, so they had detained over 100 kids,” said witness Jamila Buie.
Around 60 to 70 juveniles were reportedly detained. It’s unclear what prompted the gathering.
Photos from the scene showed a large law enforcement presence surrounding the mall as the teen suspects were handcuffed.
Authorities spent around five hours detaining the suspects involved.
“Deputies detained multiple juveniles who were issued citations in relation to the incident and will be required to appear in court at a future date,” LASD said.
No injuries or thefts of retail shops were reported during the incident.

2 children rescued after attempted kidnapping pursuit ends in L.A. County
Two juveniles were recovered from a vehicle after deputies pursued a suspect connected to an attempted kidnapping from Moreno Valley to South El Monte on Saturday night.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 8:06 p.m. to the 25000 block of Sweetgrass Drive in Moreno Valley regarding a report of an attempted kidnapping. After speaking with the victim, deputies learned the suspect had fled the area.
Deputies obtained a description of the suspect’s vehicle and located a matching vehicle a short time later, authorities said. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield, leading law enforcement on a pursuit into Los Angeles County.
The pursuit continued west on the 60 Freeway into Los Angeles County. During the chase, a Riverside County Sheriff’s K-9 unit attempted a Pursuit Intervention Technique, and the vehicle eventually became disabled near Rosemead Boulevard and Bruin Avenue in South El Monte, authorities said.
Video from the scene obtained by KTLA shows a white Toyota Prius disabled in the roadway with flattened tires and visible damage.
The footage shows deputies removing children from the vehicle and paramedics tending to them at the scene. The sheriff’s department said two juveniles were recovered from the vehicle and medically evaluated at the scene along with the suspect, and ultimately no injuries were reported.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s department.
Authorities have not yet released additional details about the incident, including the identities of the suspect, victim or juveniles involved.
The investigation remains ongoing.

Protests mark 1-year anniversary of federal agents storming L.A.’s Fashion District
Events and protests were held in downtown Los Angeles Saturday on the one-year anniversary of one of the largest immigration enforcement actions in California.
One June 6, 2025, federal agents stormed the L.A. Fashion District, arresting and detaining dozens of workers.
The enforcement action served as a catalyst, igniting a wave of subsequent raids across Southern California. In response, city leaders affirmed their “unwavering commitment to the immigrant communities” in Los Angeles, as events were held throughout the city to remember those who were deported and those whose immigration cases remain unresolved.
Protesters advocating for immigrant communities gathered outside a federal detention center in downtown Saturday, waving flags and signs. One woman was arrested during a clash with police.
The initial raid in the L.A. Garment District swept up workers, including the father of one woman who described the experience as “one of the most traumatic experiences” of their lives. This operation was among the first deportation actions that resulted in families being separated and triggered days of civil unrest.
At a commemoration event, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass and the Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of L.A. stood together, vowing to protect immigrant communities living in fear.
“We all felt attacked, and I think what’s so critical today, is to know and remember and acknowledge that this is still going on every day,” Bass said.
While the Department of Homeland Security maintains that its enforcement operations target criminals, families of those detained argue that immigration enforcement terrorizes hardworking people. These families contend that many immigrants pay taxes and contribute to society, even if they are not U.S. citizens.
Immigration attorneys report that thousands of individuals are still trying to locate their loved ones. They also highlighted that hundreds of people swept up in immigration raids last year remain detained in facilities, facing medical neglect, inhumane conditions and the denial of basic due process protections.
