Police are asking the public for help Tuesday in their search for a hit-and-run driver who struck a bicyclist in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood of Los Angeles earlier this month and left him lying in the street with severe injuries.

The incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 as a 63-year-old man was riding his bike on Hoover Street near 79th Street.

The bicyclist fell to the ground and was struck by a sedan traveling northbound on Hoover Street as he was trying to get up, the Los Angeles Police Department stated in a news release.

“The vehicle failed to stop, render aid, and remain at scene as required by law,” the Police Department stated.

The unidentified victim was later transported by ambulance with “life-threatening injuries” and remains hospitalized, police said.

No further description of the vehicle was available but it was last seen headed northbound on Hoover Street.

The victim’s family is asking that anyone who witnessed the crash come forward and talk to police.

The LAPD’s anonymous tip line can be reached at 877-527-3247.
