Carjacking suspect dies after being shot by HPD officers in NE Houston

The suspect, recognized as 24-year-old Marcelo Alfredo, died within the hospital after being shot on February 27 when he allegedly fired at officers and a HPD Ok-9.

HOUSTON — A carjacking suspect who was shot by Houston police after he allegedly shot at officers, together with a police canine, died Sunday.

The suspect, recognized as 24-year-old Marcelo Alfredo, died within the hospital after being shot on February 27 within the 7800 block of Tidwell Street.

In response to the Houston Police Division, Alfredo stole a person’s automobile at gunpoint close to Hillcroft and the Southwest Freeway. He then led police on a chase earlier than he misplaced management of the stolen automobile on a bridge at Tidwell close to Wayside and took off on foot.

Through the foot chase, Alfredo allegedly discharged his weapon in direction of officers and a Ok-9 officer. Three officers fired again and hit Alfredo.

He was taken to a hospital in essential situation the place he died on Sunday.

Just one officer suffered a minor harm. The opposite two officers and the Ok-9, who had simply returned to work after being stabbed whereas chasing a suspect, weren’t injured.

The officers have been recognized as:

  • P. Foster of the Tactical Operations Division – sworn in as an officer in April 2008.
  • D. Jenkins – sworn in as an officer in Might 2019.
  • C. Welch of the Northeast Patrol Division – sworn in as an officer in Might 2017.

The carjacking sufferer was not injured.

This incident is being investigated by the HPD Particular Investigations Unit, Inner Affairs Division and the Harris County District Lawyer’s Workplace.
