Dispute between women leads to 11 injured in shooting at Georgia hot spot

Published

on

Eleven people were hurt late Saturday after two women got into an argument that resulted in a mass shooting in a busy tourist area of Savannah, Georgia.

The argument between the women began in an unnamed establishment, before spilling over into Ellis Square in Savannah’s historic district just before midnight, Police Chief Lenny Gunther said during a news conference. Ten of the 11 people hurt were hit by gunfire.

“One shot rang out. That triggered other individuals to shoot,” Gunther said. “We had multiple individuals discharge their weapons to shoot at each other, which resulted in multiple people getting shot.”

Investigators did not say what caused the 11th injury. Some victims were treated at the scene, others were taken to the hospital. All shooting victims are expected to recover.

Victims’ ages range from 20 to 38 years old, and police do not believe the shooting was gang related, according to local TV station WTOC.

The Ellis Square shooting was one of five shootings in the city over the weekend, authorities said. Two of the shootings were deadly.

The first two of Savannah’s weekend shootings happened Friday. Each of those resulted in a non-life-threatening injury and an arrest. On Saturday, police answering a call about a home invasion found a dead juvenile at the home. Initial reports are that shots were fired after a resident confronted an armed intruder.

Another shooting was reported at a Savannah intersection on Saturday night that left one man dead and a juvenile injured.

Mayor Van Johnson said proliferation of guns was a factor in the shootings and that reasonable gun control laws are needed. He also stressed the need for gun owners to keep their weapons from being stolen and for people carrying guns to know how and when to use them.

“We have to insist on smart gun laws,” Johnson said at a Sunday news conference. “And then, on the other end, we have to insist that people act responsibly with those weapons.”

The mass shooting happened a week ahead of the tourist-heavy Memorial Day weekend. Gunther sought to assure people that police staffing would be sufficient to keep the public safe.

Ellis Square is in Savannah’s historic district, an area popular among tourists and locals. It was developed in 2010 and is known for a large fountain and a life-sized statue of songwriter Johnny Mercer.

Kentucky State Police find body of infant ‘consistent’ with baby missing for a month, 5 arrested

Published

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) says it has located an infant’s body consistent with 8-month-old Miya Tucker Rudd, who was last seen by family in May.

Police said the decomposed body was found inside the family’s home hidden in a “concealed manner” around 1:15 p.m. on Friday, June 14.

After investigators process the scene, the baby will be taken by the Ohio County Coroner’s Office and transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiners Office in Louisville, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing by KSP, Ohio County Coroner’s Officer and Kentucky Medical Examiners Office.

The child was first declared missing by Kentucky State Police earlier this month after the agency said it conducted a search warrant and welfare check at the family’s home, but the infant was not there.

Police said the child had not been seen by other family members since May.

The family’s home is in Reynolds Station, Kentucky, which is about 90 miles southwest of Louisville.

Police said that Miya Tucker was last believed to be in the care of her parents, 29-year-old Tesla Tucker and 30-year-old Cage C. Rudd, but could not be located during a welfare check. (Kentucky State Police)

The welfare check on the baby came after the girl’s mother, Tesla Tucker, 29, and her father, Cage C. Rudd, 30, were arrested at a motel in Owensboro on Wednesday with no information on the baby’s whereabouts.

The parents were in possession of a large amount of drugs, including fentanyl, a police spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

“[We] tried to interview the parents, and they’re not being very cooperative with our investigation on this,” Trooper Corey King of the Kentucky State Police told Fox News Digital Friday.

They were both charged with first-degree trafficking in controlled substance (greater than 2 grams – methamphetamine), trafficking of illegal drugs, trafficking marijuana, first-degree child abuse, abandonment of a minor and engaging in organized crime and possession of paraphernalia.

He has been charged with drug crimes, child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Miya’s grandmother, Billie J. Smith, was arrested on Friday and charged with second-degree domestic violence assault after police discovered she had an outstanding warrant in Daviess County from October 2023, according to WFIE.

Georgia man accused of attacking pregnant woman is repeat offender in Atlanta area: police

Published

A Georgia man allegedly seen attacking a pregnant woman at an Atlanta pizzeria has been arrested, authorities said this week.

Willie Grace, 52, who has a long criminal history, was taken into police custody on Monday and had been a negative presence at Fellini’s Pizza for years, the manager told Fox Atlanta. On Friday, officers responded to the pizza shop where the manager said a man entered and refused to leave.

The man appeared to swing at a pregnant woman in the parking lot before re-entering the business and refusing to leave, police said. The suspect became upset and hit the glass door before fleeing the area, authorities said.

Caitlin Markli, the general manager of the restaurant, said Grace has appeared in the pizza shop before.

“This is actually the second time he’s broken the glass door in the same exact spot,” Markli said. “Something’s got to be done for the people in the neighborhoods and the businesses around here because it’s ridiculous.”

“His thing is hitting women … defecating in the parking lot, hurting our property, open drug use,” Markli added. “We’ve had issues with him over the years but it’s gotten worse.”

Grace has multiple arrests in Atlanta, police said, without disclosing his past alleged crimes. Markli said attempts have been made over the years to keep him off the premises.

“I’ve been trying to get a criminal trespass on him for years, but they have to be present when the police arrive for them to do that,” she said. “It does make the employees feel unsafe.”
