With the program undergoing significant change and working through a period of transition, West Virginia’s men’s basketball program has postponed its previously scheduled Italy Summer Tour until next summer.
The Mountaineers were to begin practicing later in July for a 10-day, three-game trip beginning July 31.
However, with Josh Eilert replacing Bob Huggins as head coach and the roster undergoing significant turnover since the coaching change, the WVU Athletics Department worked with Complete Sport Management to change the trip to summer of 2024.
“For the trip to be most beneficial to our program, it made more sense to defer the Italy summer trip to next year,” interim head coach Josh Eilert said. “A lot of factors went into the decision, but it became clear that getting our roster finalized and continuing our workout schedule here in Morgantown was the best course of action.”
Earlier Friday, it was revealed the Mountaineers will meet SMU at 8:30 p.m. on November 20 in a Fort Myers Tip-Off opening-round matchup.
Virginia and Wisconsin will meet first at 6 p.m., while championship and third-place contests are set for November 22. All games will be televised by FS1.
