West Virginia vs UNC baseball live updates: College World Series time, TV channel

One of the beautiful things about the College World Series: Some teams seem destined to find their way back to each other.

After North Carolina sent West Virginia to the loser’s bracket on Day 3 in Omaha, the Mountaineers defeated Troy to make it to the national semifinals. Now they need two wins over a North Carolina team that has outlasted its opponents to go 2-0 to date in order to make the championship series in their first CWS appearance.

North Carolina has played a very similar game twice thus far in its return to Omaha, with it remaining close before breaking it open late in the game. With that in mind, West Virginia may try to jump on Tar Heels pitching early in order to combat a team that has made a living with long, patient trips to the plate.

North Carolina is looking for its first ever College World Series win and first appearance since it was the runner-up in back-to-back seasons in 2006 and 2007. Led by Owen Hull and Jake Schaffner, the Tar Heels are looking to wrap up their side of the bracket and look ahead either Oklahoma or Georgia/Texas.

Col. Jack Chambers confirmed as U.S. Marshal for Southern District of W.Va.

The former superintendent of the West Virginia State Police has a new role, West Virginia’s U.S. Senators said.

Col. Jack Chambers was confirmed on Friday by the United States Senate to serve as the United States Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia, according to social media posts from U.S. Sens. Jim Justice and Shelley Moore Capito.

“Jack has built a tremendous career in law enforcement and has spent 35 years serving the people of West Virginia,” Justice said on social media. “Congratulations Jack!”

Chambers took over as superintendent of the West Virginia State Police on an interim basis in March of 2023 after former superintendent Jan Cahill resigned due to allegations of wrongdoing by State Police. Chambers was then appointed as the agency’s full-time superintendent a few months later.

Chambers was nominated for the role of U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia by President Donald Trump, and was one of almost 75 of Trump’s nominees to be confirmed by the Senate on Friday, according to Capito.

“Colonel Chambers is extremely qualified for this position, and I am confident that he will continue to serve our state well as one of our U.S. Marshals!” Capito said on social media.

Chambers replaces Michael Baylous, who retired from the role earlier in the year and was subsequently appointed by Gov. Patrick Morrisey to serve as Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security.

Vape shops raided in Harrison County under provisions of new state law – WV MetroNews

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Multiple agencies served search warrants at Harrison County vape shops Thursday.

David McCormick

The operation is a result of an ongoing investigation into the sale of illegal THC products and potential violations of the new state law, the Vape Safety Act, approved by state lawmakers earlier this year.

Thursday’s raids included the state Tax Department, the state Alcohol Beverage Control Administration, the state Department of Agriculture, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and police from Bridgeport and Clarksburg.

“There are certainly some legit vape shops out there, and this will not apply to them because they’re doing the right thing,” Del. David McCormick, R-Monongalia, who sponsored the Vape Safety bill said. “The ones that are not are going to get raided; they’re going to get prosecuted and possibly sent back to where they came from—we’re going to get rid of this scourge.”

The law that went into effect July 1 requires shops to be licensed annually and stock only state-approved products that are not sold to children. The shops will be subject to periodic inspections; violations can be administrative or criminal, and all can be appealed.

“We’re going to go after the bad actors in these vape shops,” McCormick said. “People that are selling to our kids and fostering the next generation of drug addicts essentially.”

Some stores have been accused of selling illegal substances and even using the stores as a residence in some cases.

“Folks that are here illegally living in these stores, there’s illegal activity going on like money laundering,” McCormick said. “But not all of these stores are bad actors.”

According to state officials, business operators, workers, and state workers are learning the new regulations covering the license application process, product standards, annual fees, labeling, and marketing. State workers have also been learning about the details of the bill, as well as the businesses.

“It may seem a little shocking because it’s the first one,” McCormick said. “But I think this will become old news because I think you’re going to see law enforcement and the state agencies that are involved are very motivated.”
