Verizon outage reported in West Virginia
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The Verizon Network is currently experiencing a widespread outage across West Virginia.
A service alert was sent to residents in Kanawha County.
Verizon customers should still be able to call 911.
If a Verizon customer experiences an issue with contacting 911, a landline should be used if possible.
However, only contact 911 if there is a true emergency.
At this time, Verizon is not giving an estimated time for restoration.

One of the beautiful things about the College World Series: Some teams seem destined to find their way back to each other.
After North Carolina sent West Virginia to the loser’s bracket on Day 3 in Omaha, the Mountaineers defeated Troy to make it to the national semifinals. Now they need two wins over a North Carolina team that has outlasted its opponents to go 2-0 to date in order to make the championship series in their first CWS appearance.

North Carolina has played a very similar game twice thus far in its return to Omaha, with it remaining close before breaking it open late in the game. With that in mind, West Virginia may try to jump on Tar Heels pitching early in order to combat a team that has made a living with long, patient trips to the plate.
North Carolina is looking for its first ever College World Series win and first appearance since it was the runner-up in back-to-back seasons in 2006 and 2007. Led by Owen Hull and Jake Schaffner, the Tar Heels are looking to wrap up their side of the bracket and look ahead either Oklahoma or Georgia/Texas.

North Carolina has the early edge over the Mountaineers, needing just one win to West Virginia’s two to advance to the best-of-three championship series. But this is Omaha, and magic has been known to occur out there on Charles Schwab Field.

North Carolina is off to its best start at the College World Series since 2006 after picking up wins over Ole Miss and West Virginia in its first two games in Omaha. The Tar Heels will send left-handed pitcher Folger Boaz to the mound against the Mountaineers. Wednesday’s start will be Boaz’s first time pitching for the Tar Heels in 17 days, with his last outing coming against East Carolina in the Chapel Hill Regional, where he allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work.
The Mountaineers made it out of the elimination bracket with a 12-0 win over Troy on June 16. West Virginia put a four-spot on the board in the top of the sixth inning to break the game open, with Gavin Kelly providing a three-run knock to left center.
Should West Virginia defeat North Carolina on Wednesday, both teams will meet in a winner-take-all semifinal on June 18 at The Chuck with a first pitch time yet to be announced. N.C. man faces prison after relocating to W.Va. without updating sex offender registration
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A North Carolina sex offender who relocated to West Virginia is facing prison time after violating federal registration mandates, prosecutors said.
James Terry Lawson Jr., 43, pleaded guilty Tuesday to failing to register and update registration as a sex offender, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.
The release said Lawson was convicted of indecent liberties with children in North Carolina back in 2003. The man lived in Vienna, W.Va., in late 2024 and early 2025 without registering as a sex offender.
Prosecutors noted Lawson has previous convictions for failing to maintain records in 2009 and 2017.
Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 5 when Lawson faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release time and a fine of up to $250,000.
