CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Shinnston woman is facing multiple charges after leading police on a pursuit Friday near Gypsy.
West Virginia State Police said they attempted to stop Cherokee Martin, 22, of Shinnston, on U.S. Route 19 after she reportedly crossed the center line. Martin pulled into the Ellis Restaurant but fled when troopers walked up to make contact with her.
Troopers said during the chase, Martin threw a red container from the driver’s side window and an additional item on Apple Jack Road.
The pursuit ended when Martin lost control and hit an embankment on Lumberport Road.
One passenger fled on foot over the embankment, another was placed in the police cruiser, and another was transported to the United Hospital Center for treatment.
A search of the vehicle was conducted after a K-9 officer gave a positive indication of narcotics.
Troopers found a large amount of a white powdery substance that field tested positive for fentanyl, scales, a loaded.9mm handgun, and a box of baking soda. One of the passengers had $420 in cash in denominations consistent with the sales of illicit substances, according to troopers.
Martin has been charged with possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and fleeing while driving under the influence. A passenger, Cody Keesecker has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
