West Virginia
Lincoln-signed statehood document sold at auction to WV buyer
The winning bidder was a West Virginian for a Civil War-era Lincoln letter with West Virginia ties. The document, signed by President Abraham Lincoln on Oct. 21, 1861, appointed Wheeling statehood advocate Daniel Lamb an agent to receive and distribute “arms and munitions of war” to protect Virginia citizens loyal to the Union cause in the Civil War. The letter was auctioned by Nate D. Sanders Auctions of Los Angeles, California.
