Ten stakes races worth $1.025 million in purses highlight the West Virginia Breeders Classics at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races Oct. 14.

The richest of the Saturday evening races is the $300,000 Sam Huff West Virginia Breeders’ Classic. That race honors the late Sam Huff, a National Football League Hall of Famer and West Virginia native and breeder who founded the West Virginia Breeders Classics.

Trainer Jeff Runco starts the favorites in the 1 1/8-mile race in Coleswood Farm’s Coastal Mission , 7-for-8 this year and a winner of five straight in shorter races, and David Raim’s Muad’dib , who seeks a third consecutive win in the race after taking it in 2022 and 2021.

Arnaldo Bocachica rides 4-5 favorite Coastal Mission, a 4-year-old gelded son of Great Notion  , while Marshall Mendez is aboard 5-2 shot Muad’dib, a 6-year-old Fiber Sonde gelding.
