West Virginia
Central, northern counties placed under flood watch with heavy rain in forecast – WV MetroNews
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather has placed most of central and northern West Virginia under a flood watch from Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon.
Meteorologists said excessive rain could produce flash flooding.
The counties under the watch include Barbour, Braxton, Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Jackson, Lewis, Mason, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Taylor, Tyler, Upshur, Wirt, Wood, Wetzel, Marion, Monongalia and Preston.
The rain will come from a moisture-laden low pressure system that will bring rain, heavy at times, meteorologists said.
“Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts, are possible in the watch area. With soils already saturated from previous
rainfall, flash flooding is a possibility,” according to the message from the Weather Service.
The watch goes through 2 p.m. Thursday.
