PENDLETON COUNTY, WV. (WHSV) – After three years, the mother of Cassie Sheetz confirms that her daughter’s remains have finally been identified.

Back in 2021, West Virginia State Police were led to human remains in the Monongahela National Forest that were believed to be those of missing hiker Cassie Sheetz. But since then, their identity was not confirmed and the investigation into Cassie’s disappearance was at a standstill until now.

Cassie’s sister, Tabitha, took to social media to confirm these details. Tabitha said she received a phone call today stating the DNA from the remains found on December 29th, 2021, were in fact those of Cassie Sheetz.

Tabitha also mentioned on social media that this is not the closure she wanted. However, now she will not be wondering.
