WCSO raising money to send officers to Police Week in Washington, D.C.

BOONE — Watauga County Sheriff’s Workplace is elevating cash to ship officers to Nationwide Police Week in Washington, D.C.

Nationwide Police Week will happen from Might 11 to 16 with Peace Officers Memorial Day being Might 15. The Watauga County Sheriff’s Workplace is fundraising to ship officers and their spouses to the occasion to take part in memorial providers and vigils to honor Sgt. Chris Ward and Ok-9 Deputy Logan Fox, who have been killed within the line of obligation on April 28.

Fundraising occasions have included charging for parking at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church throughout Winter Fest in Blowing Rock, promoting T-shirts and a barbecue dinner at Mount Vernon Baptist Church on April 9. The Sheriff’s Workplace can be accepting donations.

“We’re actually simply grateful for our group for supporting us. They’ve proven nice generosity,” stated Capt. Preston Russell. “Staying in D.C. for 4 to 5 days is greater than $1,000 per officer, so the power to go up there and never have to fret in regards to the funds is simply very impactful for us and we respect our group reaching out to us and serving to us financially to take that burden of us.”

Russell shared his gratitude to the church buildings which have supplied their area for fundraising efforts, eating places and group that donated meals and drinks for the barbecue dinner and group members for attending occasions and making donations.
