Statistics are needed to truly show trends, but anecdotes have a place, and they suggested that this was a bad week for dog owners in the District, as two dogs were taken in separate incidents. Both of the stolen canines were French bulldogs.

Two dogs are stolen from two owners in a week, D.C. police say
But when she arrived, the police said, two robbers approached her and one took Mocha. When she tried to get the dog back, one of the robbers showed a gun and threatened to kill her, the police said.
The dog owner left and called the police.
Mocha is a 1-year-old female who has a surgical scar on her stomach.
Only four days earlier, according to the police, another French bulldog, a 2-year-old male named Tyson, was stolen in the city. Tyson, a brindle gray animal, was taken in a burglary in the unit block of Galveston Street SW, the police said.
Tyson, they said, also answers to the name “Cheese.”
French bulldogs have been stolen in the city on previous occasions, at least one of them earlier this year. But it is not clear whether two of the crimes have occurred in the city in the same week.
The dogs are both small, highly sought after and often bring prices well into the four-figure range. The dogs have been targets in incidents throughout the country.
