DC archdiocese accidentally sends blunt response on Pelosi Communion ban

Following electronic mail exchanges that seemingly tried to delay publication whereas asking for a telephone dialog, spokeswoman Patricia Zapor informed the Washington Examiner through a telephone name that there could be no direct response from the Archdiocese of Washington or Gregory. She despatched a follow-up electronic mail, pointing to prior feedback concerning his place on politicians receiving Communion.

“I apologize for the mistaken electronic mail. Now we have not been responding to inquiries on this matter as a result of Cardinal Gregory’s place has not modified from what he has stated up to now,” the follow-up electronic mail acknowledged. “Cardinal Gregory has no new remark in regards to the subject of Catholic politicians receiving Communion. The actions of Archbishop Cordileone are his determination to make within the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Cardinal Gregory has not instructed the clergymen of The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington to refuse Communion to anybody.”

In a September 2021 interview with Crux, Gregory stated it was not the position of bishops to function “police.”

Bishops from California, Colorado, Illinois, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin have joined Cordileone in assist of the ban.
