– UFO sightings per 100K residents: 22

All through the month of July 1952, a collection of sightings often called the “Large Flap” put Washington D.C. residents right into a panic.

It started July 19: Repeated radar blips and sightings of lights transferring at irregular speeds and trajectories (uncommon sufficient to rule out taking pictures stars or plane) impressed the U.S. Air Power to ship fighter jets into the sky to intercept what was assumed to be enemy plane and presumably a Soviet-led invasion. The radar alerts disappeared every time jet fighters approached and reappeared after they moved away.

The alerts returned the next week. Two extra F-94 jets gave chase, and the blips vanished once more. One jet pilot claimed to see a lightweight within the distance, however could not shut in on it. The federal government dominated it a “temperature inversion” to elucidate the thriller away.
