President Bailey, Virginia State Conference NAACP, will be our February speaker. He will discuss Virginia’s importance in the upcoming election and Virginia State Conference NAACP’s priorities for 2024.
Rev. Cozy Bailey is the President of the Virginia State Conference of the NAACP. He is an associate minister at First Mount Zion Baptist Church Dumfries, VA. He serves in a variety of ministries to include Sunday School teacher and the member care ministry of the church.
Rev. Bailey is a native of St. Louis, MO. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned as an officer the U.S. Marine Corps upon his graduation with a bachelor’s degree I mathematics. During his 23 years in the Marine Corps, he served in a variety of venues to include serving in Operation Desert Storm during the period 1990-1991. Among the military citations received are the Navy Commendation Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Meritorious Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit. Cozy had attained the rank of LtCol at the time of his retirement. Cozy earned a Masters of Business Administration from Boston University while on active duty. He also has a Master of Divinity degree from the Samuel D. Proctor School of Divinity at Virginia Union University.
Cozy is an active member of several organizations including the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He is the immediate past chair of the Prince William County Police Department Citizens Advisory Board and is a director of the George M. Hampton Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation providing scholarships to young African American men and providing other community services. He is the vice chair of the Virginia African American Advisory Board and serves on the Virginia Judicial Inquiry and Review Commission.
His wife Andrea serves as with the Deaconess Ministry at First Mount Zion and is the Potomac District Supervisor for the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. They have been married since 1976. They have one son, Cozy Jr. who is also a graduate of the Naval Academy.
