Virginia Blue Ridge TWENTY24 ambassador to compete in Paris 2024 Olympics
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)– Virginia Blue Ridge TWENTY24 announced an ambassador and a mentor for the program, Caileigh Filmer, was selected to represent Canada during the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Filmer, who was selected to compete on Canada’s Women’s Eight Rowing Team, joined TWENTY24 during the 2023 season with the goal of making the country’s track cycling team. She eventually returned to rowing in 2024 while serving as an ambassador athlete and junior mentor for the program.
Organizers with Virginia Blue Ridge TWENTY24 say Filmer has been an invaluable mentor and advisor, sharing her knowledge and experience as a high performer in both rowing and cycling. She provides insights for young athletes on the principles of excellence and performance. Filmer also teaches the importance of mental health and the power of positivity in athletic competition.
This will be her third time representing Canada during the Olympics, making her Olympic debut during Rio 2016 and winning a bronze medal in the women’s pair at Tokyo 2020.
“Being selected to go to my third Olympic Games is a dream come true that I would not have thought possible a year ago,” said Filmer. “I am so proud of the entire team for our growth, integrity, and courage every day. I’m absolutely thrilled to race with these women and to have fun doing what we love together – representing Canada at the Olympics.”
The junior team is grateful for Filmer and wishes her the best for Paris 2024.
