This Day in History: Virginia Union Uni students stage first sit-in

(WDBJ) – February 20, 1960:

A group of students from Virginia Union University walked into Woolworth’s department store.

The students filled all the seats at the lunch counter and patiently waited to be served in one of the Commonwealth’s first sit-ins.

Instead of serving the protestors, management closed the counter.
