Small plane makes emergency landing on Virginia highway

A small airplane made an emergency touchdown on I-66 in Winchester, Va., on Saturday morning.

Virginia State Police stated the airplane was a small, non-public plane, including that the pilot and extra occupant have been unhurt. A preliminary investigation confirmed the airplane skilled engine failure, police stated.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated in a press release that it’s investigating the incident.

“A single-engine Cessna 172 landed safely on Interstate 66 after declaring an emergency on account of engine failure in Winchester, Va., round 10:45 a.m. native time Saturday,” FAA stated. “Two folks have been on board.”

Site visitors cameras present the airplane on the appropriate aspect of the freeway with its wing stretching out into the rightmost journey lane.

“An airplane (sure, an airplane) is obstructing the appropriate lane of #I66 westbound simply previous exit 6 in #Warren County,” the Virginia Division of Transportation’s regional office tweeted. “It made an emergency touchdown and we don’t know the way lengthy it is going to be there. Anticipate delays.”

The workplace tweeted about an hour later saying the airplane had been relocated, and all site visitors lanes reopened to automobiles.
