VIRGINIA — Police released the name of the 35-year-old woman who died in a crash Friday afternoon.

Tara Marie Schumacker, of Eveleth, was taken to a hospital but later pronounced dead, the Virginia Police Department reported in a news release Wednesday.

According to the police department, officers were dispatched at 2:48 p.m. to North Minnesota Highway 135, just east of Laurentian Manor Apartments. Schumacker was traveling north on the 600 block when the crash occurred.

Eyewitnesses reported that Schumacker’s vehicle swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck two vehicles in the southbound lane.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
